Counseling & Group Services
The Center for Sexual Assault Survivors provides therapeutic and
support groups with trained facilitators for individuals who have
been sexually violated. Please call (757) 599-9844 if you are

Some frequently asked questions about our groups:

What’s involved in the therapeutic groups?
Members of the group will explore the most common topics
surrounding sexual violations, including: poor self-esteem, guilt,
shame, trust, and anger.

What’s involved in the support groups?
The groups provide an environment in which members are free to
share feelings and stories, explore behaviors and attitudes,
empowering members to make life choices which can enhance
adjustment and recovery.

Where and when are the groups held?
The groups are held at The Center for Sexual Assault Survivors.

How often and how long do groups meet?
Both groups meet once a week.  The therapeutic groups run for 12
weeks and support groups run for 12 weeks.

How large are the groups?
Group size varies from 6 to 10 individuals plus the facilitator.

What are the requirements to join the groups?  
For therapeutic groups, we strongly suggest that you have
participated in individual counseling prior to joining the therapeutic
group. For the support group, we require that you go through the
therapeutic group process first.

What does it cost to join a group?
Both groups are offered free of charge
